950 Studebaker Champion Regal Deluxe convertible
Studebaker cars from 1950 are iconic examples of post-World War II American automotive design. By this time, Studebaker was known for its distinctive, innovative styling, largely thanks to industrial designer Raymond Loewy and his team.
Design and Styling
Distinctive "Bullet Nose": One of the most memorable features of the 1950 Studebaker models, particularly the Commander, was their "bullet nose" front end. This futuristic look made the cars instantly recognizable. It gave Studebaker a modern, streamlined appearance, different from the boxier designs of its competitors.
Streamlined Silhouette: Studebaker was ahead of its time in terms of aerodynamics. The 1950 models had smooth lines and a more flowing design compared to other cars on the road, making them seem fast and modern.
Studebaker Commander: Positioned as a more upscale model, the Commander had a more powerful engine than the Champion and was available with more luxury options. It also shared the same "bullet nose" design but offered a smoother, more comfortable ride.
She comes with a 245.6 cubic-inch inline-6 engine, offering 102 horsepower. She also comes with 2 innovations :
Overdrive Transmission: Studebaker offered an optional overdrive transmission, which improved highway fuel efficiency by allowing the engine to run at lower RPMs at higher speeds.
Hill Holder: Another innovation was the "hill holder" mechanism, which kept the car from rolling backward on an incline when the driver let off the brake.
Studebakers from the early 1950s, particularly the 1950 model, have since become collector's items due to their unique design. The "bullet nose" models, in particular, are often featured in classic car shows and have a dedicated following.
Our example we are presenting here today was sold new in Belgium in April of 1950, stayed her whole life in Belgium and was restored very nicely in 2014-2016.
She reportedly has had only 2 owners from new.

950 Studebaker Champion Regal Deluxe cabriolet

Studebaker auto's uit 1950 zijn iconische voorbeelden van het Amerikaanse autodesign van na de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Tegen die tijd stond Studebaker bekend om zijn opvallende, innovatieve styling, grotendeels dankzij industrieel ontwerper Raymond Loewy en zijn team.

Ontwerp en styling :
Een van de meest memorabele kenmerken van de Studebaker modellen uit 1950, met name de Commander, was hun “Bullet nose” voorkant. Deze futuristische look maakte de auto's direct herkenbaar. Het gaf Studebaker een modern, gestroomlijnd uiterlijk, anders dan de dikkere ontwerpen van zijn concurrenten.

Studebaker was zijn tijd ver vooruit op het gebied van aerodynamica. De modellen uit 1950 hadden vloeiende lijnen en een meer vloeiend ontwerp in vergelijking met andere auto's op de weg, waardoor ze snel en modern leken.

De studebaker Commander was gepositioneerd als een meer luxueus model. De Commander had een krachtigere motor dan de Champion en was verkrijgbaar met meer luxe opties. Hij had ook hetzelfde “Bulletnose”-ontwerp, maar bood een soepeler, comfortabeler rijgedrag.

Ze wordt geleverd met een 245,6 kubieke inch inline-6 motor, goed voor 102 pk.
Ze wordt ook geleverd met 2 innovaties:

Overdrive transmissie: Studebaker bood een optionele overdrive transmissie aan, die het brandstofverbruik op de snelweg verbeterde door de motor bij hogere snelheden op een lager toerental te laten draaien.
Hill Holder: Een andere innovatie was het “hill holder” mechanisme, dat ervoor zorgde dat de auto niet achteruit rolde op een helling wanneer de bestuurder de rem los liet.

Studebakers uit de vroege jaren 1950, vooral het model uit 1950, zijn sindsdien verzamelobjecten geworden vanwege hun unieke ontwerp. Vooral de “bullet nose” modellen zijn vaak te zien op klassieke autoshows en hebben een toegewijde aanhang.

Het exemplaar dat we hier vandaag voorstellen werd in april 1950 nieuw verkocht in België, bleef haar hele leven in België en werd in 2014-2016 zeer mooi gerestaureerd.

Naar verluidt heeft ze slechts 2 eigenaars gehad vanaf nieuw.
