The 1989 Porsche 930 Turbo Coupé was the final evolution of the first-generation 911 Turbo. With its wide fenders, imposing ‘whale tail’ spoiler, and raw performance, this model became one of the most desirable Porsches ever built. Under the hood sits a 3.3-litre turbocharged flat-six engine producing 300 hp. This was the only model year where the 930 came standard with the G50 gearbox, a five-speed manual transmission that offered smoother shifting and better power distribution.

The 930 Turbo was notorious for its brutal turbo boost, delivering power abruptly and making the rear wheels struggle for traction. This unpredictable nature earned it the infamous nickname ‘widowmaker.’ The suspension and brakes were directly influenced by Porsche’s racing technology, ensuring that, despite its challenging character, the car remained stable and controlled at high speeds. This was the ultimate air-cooled Turbo of the 1980s, a timeless icon that continues to impress to this day.

De Porsche 930 Turbo Coupé uit 1989 was de laatste evolutie van de iconische 911 Turbo van de eerste generatie. Met zijn brede wielkasten, imposante ‘whale tail’-spoiler en brute prestaties werd dit model een van de meest begeerde Porsches ooit. Onder de motorkap ligt een 3,3-liter zescilinder boxermotor met turbo, die 300 pk levert. Dit was het enige modeljaar waarin de 930 standaard werd uitgerust met de G50-versnellingsbak, een handgeschakelde vijfversnellingsbak die soepeler schakelde en het vermogen beter verdeelde.

De 930 Turbo stond bekend om zijn brute turbodruk, waarbij het vermogen abrupt insloeg en de achterwielen plots alle kracht te verwerken kregen. Dit onvoorspelbare karakter leverde hem de beruchte bijnaam ‘widowmaker’ op. De ophanging en remmen werden rechtstreeks beïnvloed door Porsche’s racewagens, waardoor de auto ondanks zijn uitdagende karakter toch stabiel en gecontroleerd aanvoelde bij hoge snelheden. Avec ses ailes élargies, son imposant aileron "whale tail" et ses performances brutes, ce modèle est devenu l’un des Porsche les plus convoités. Sous le capot se trouve un moteur six cylindres à plat de 3,3 litres turbo développant 300 ch. Ce fut la seule année modèle où la 930 était équipée de série de la boîte de vitesses G50, une boîte manuelle à cinq rapports offrant des changements plus fluides et une meilleure répartition de la puissance.

La 930 Turbo était redoutée pour son turbo au déclenchement brutal, libérant toute la puissance d’un coup et mettant à l’épreuve l’adhérence des roues arrière. Ce caractère imprévisible lui a valu le surnom redoutable de "widowmaker".
