THE PORSCHE 912
Put into production in July 1964, the 911 presaged the end of 356-production. It was July 1965 before the 911 made it to the US, and customers immediately noticed the differences from its predecessor. In addition to being more modern and more powerful, it was also more expensive: nearly $2,000 more than the comparable 356 model. In Europe, too, this was a problem. Thus, by April 1965 a "transitional model" entered production. Essentially a 911 with a 356-type flat four, the new car, designated "912," was not only less expensive, selling at near-356 prices, but enjoyed more even weight distribution and better economy. The combination of the four-cylinder engine and the slipperier 911 design was capable of achieving 30 mpg. More than 30,000 were eventually built.

OUR 912
This 1967 912 coupe was built at the Karmann factory and is beautifully finished in Light Ivory over a red leatherette interior. The car started its life in Washington State, USA, the beautiful so-called evergreen state. Around 10years ago the car came to Europe via a French classic car collector who then sold the car to the owner of a Belgian bodyshop. He had the car restored by his team of professionals.
During its meticulous restoration, which was completed in 2017, this 912 was brought back to showroom finish throughout, with its stock appearance being maintained. The Hellelfenbien Weiss paint finish is very well done, not appearing to be overly restored. Chrome is nice and shiny with the original 'fully closed' chrome bumperettes in the front.
The interior carries a similar theme, being tastefully preserved and restored. When opening the door we are welcomed by some lovely 'SWB' details. Early full chrome carpet step plates, early door knobs, an original Blaupunkt radio, period correct Porsche seat lap belts,... Mechanically, both the engine and transmission were rebuilt as part of the project as to ensure a dependable drive train. The car has the optional 902/1 5 speed gearbox which was shared with the 911. The car starts at the turn of the key, the engine pulls nice at all revs and gearshifts are smooth.
The 912 was a real succes when launched and to this date it has its fare share of fans, partially due to being a better balanced car. The interest and market value of early Porsche 912s has been climbing steadily over the past few years and offered here is an example that has been cared for and restored, simply ready for years of driving pleasure ahead. One of the purest Porsche experiences, the 912 is a vehicle that every enthusiast should own at some point.
The car comes with a matching red car cover, a spare wheel, hundreds of photos during its restoration, the old US title and of course the current Belgian title. It's a beautiful 912 to enjoy and to drive worry free, AND at a fraction of the cost of a short wheel base 911 or 356!
The car currently has Belgian registration and is sold on behalve of a client.
