1935 AUBURN SPEEDSTER 866 - GENN PRAY 1971

Auburn Speedster no. 97 of 113 - built by Genn Pray in 1971 an 'original Auburn', do not compare with other copy Auburns replicas offered on this site, this is a real ACD AUBURN

When the Auburn Automobile Company closed its doors in 1937 and never reopened, Glenn Pray bought the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Company, including all patents, in 1960, along with investor Dallas Winslow, to sell the remaining ACD parts stock to owners and restorers of existing cars. Genn Pray, an engineer was restoring Cords in the 1950's when he bought the Auburn Automobile Company in Indiana in the late 1950's and moved it with all parts and machinery to Broken Arrow Oklahoma. After this (1960 -1981) he started the "rebuild" of the Auburn CORD (300x pieces) and the Auburn SPEEDSTERS (113x pieces).

Genn Pray had a very special arrangement with Ford where he bought OEM factory new Ford chassis with virtually the same wheelbase as the original Auburns supplemented with an OEM Ford V8 'big block', which was used in the CORD as well as in the 866 SPEEDSTER.

Genn THEREFORE does not use an old donor car like other suppliers who wanted to follow in Genn's footsteps to success.

This SPEEDSTER is therefore an originally built Auburn with chassis no. 97 of a series of 113.

Genn sadly passed away in the 1980s. And besides the 113 built Speedsters, no others were built, which makes this no. 97 a special collector's item.

Toen de Auburn Automobile Company in 1937 zijn deuren sloot om daarna niet meer open te gaan, kocht Glenn Pray in 1960, de Auburn Cord Duesenberg Company incl. alle patenten, samen met een investeerder Dallas Winslow, om de resterende ACD-onderdelen voorraad te verkopen aan eigenaren en restaurateurs van de bestaande auto's. Genn Pray, een ingenieur was in de jaren 50 bezig met het restaureren van Cords, toen hij eind jaren 50tig de Auburn Automobile Company in Indiana kocht en deze verplaatste met alle onderdelen en machinerie naar Broken Arrow Oklahoma. Hierna is hij begonnen met de “rebuild” (1960 - 1981) van de van Auburn CORD (300x stuks) en de Auburn SPEEDSTERS (113x stuks).

Genn Pray had een zeer uitzonderlijke afspraak met Ford, waar hij OEM fabriek nieuwe Ford chassis kocht met vrijwel dezelfde wielbasis als de originele Auburns aangevuld met een OEM Ford V8 'big block', welk werd gebruikt in de CORD als in de 866 SPEEDSTER.

Genn gebruikt DUS geen oude donor auto zoals andere aanbeiders die in de voetsporen van Genn het succces wilde volgen.

Deze SPEEDSTER is dus een originele gebouwde Auburn met chassis no. 97 van een serie van 113.

Genn is helaas overleden in de jaren tachtig. En naast de 113 gebouwd Speedsters, zijn er geen andere meer gebouwd, hetgeen deze no. 97 een bijzondere collector item maakt.
